Time and Place for Obedience Classes - Why I currently only offer one-on-one sessions.

One of the most thought-provoking ideas within the realm of dog training that I have found is in relation to the stereotypical idea of taking young puppies and inexperienced dogs to a room where a trainer tries to teach a group of dogs behaviors. While this may be a common theme in training, it is not always the best.

There’s a time and place for obedience classes. (Quote by trainer Ed Crawly) And this is not while training new behaviors. The vast majority of dogs learn best in a familiar environment with few distractions. This is not to say that there aren’t many uses for group classes, they are a great place for proofing trained behaviors as well as working on some complex behaviors like those used in certain dog sports. As I begin to work with more clients I may decide to expand to group classes, however, for now, I will stick with one-on-one sessions.
